Enhancing Your
Practice Through Modern Ultrasound Technology
Echocardiography is
specifically designed for registered nurses who have a general understanding of
anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system. We are here to enhance
your ultrasound scanning skills through the power of modern technology. With a
blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, our course equips you
with the expertise needed for excellence in patient care, focusing on
echocardiography this time.
Over the span of four
days, you will progressively learn and practice the four fundamental
echocardiographic windows. Each day is dedicated to one window, combining
focused theory with hands‑on scanning including the parasternal, apical,
subcostal, suprasternal view.
Course Outlines
Day 1: Parasternal
Window
● Brief review of
cardiac anatomy as seen in ultrasound
● Probe handling,
positioning, and ergonomics
● Parasternal long‑axis
view: chamber identification, LV function, valve assessment
● Parasternal short‑axis
views: aortic valve, mitral valve, papillary muscles
● Recognizing normal
versus common pathological findings
● Hands‑on scanning
with instructor guidance
Day 2: Apical Window
● Apical 4‑chamber:
chamber size, symmetry, wall motion
● Apical 2‑chamber and
3‑chamber views: LV function, ejection fraction concepts
● Apical 5‑chamber:
LVOT and Doppler introduction (basic only)
● How angle and patient
positioning influence image quality
● Hands‑on scanning
with instructor guidance
Day 3: Subcostal
Window
● Subcostal 4‑chamber:
cardiac motion, pericardial effusion assessment
● IVC view: estimating
volume status and right atrial pressure
● Tips for scanning
challenging patients (obesity, limited mobility)
● Hands‑on scanning
with instructor guidance
Day 4: Suprasternal
Window
● Visualizing the
aortic arch and its branches
● Identifying
abnormalities such as dilation or dissection clues
● Doppler basics for
flow assessment in the great vessels
● Review of all four
windows as a full exam sequence
● Hands‑on scanning
with instructor guidance
