Aim:
This course aims to provide participants an overview of common
investigations in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Learning outcomes:
Upon completion of the
course, students should be able to:
l Know the indications of
ordering different kinds of investigations
l Know the precautions and
risks associated with different kinds of investigations
l Understand the role of
investigations in the management of different diseases.
Course outline:
Lesson 1
Blood Result
Interpretation. Eg. CBP, L/RFT, lipid profile, IgE Allergy Test, autoimmune
markers, hormone tests
Lesson 2
Investigations for cardiac
problems (Echocardiogram, Holter, CXR, Resting ECG, Treadmill Exercise ECG, CT
Coronary Angiogram)
Lesson 3
Imaging for Musculoskeletal conditions (X ray, ultrasound, MRI,
CT, DEXA)
Lesson 4
Investigations for cancers
(eg. Cancer markers, genetic tests for cancers, PET-CT)
Case discussions
(different diseases eg, sepsis)
